Down These Streets is an on-going photographic essay of life and culture down the streets of neighborhoods around the world. From South Africa to America and beyond, DTS showcases the meeting of an artist with the daily life, reverie and imagination of a community and its inhabitants; both conscious and unconscious.

As a photo journalist, I am always exploring the heart and soul of any city that I encounter. DTS is a story within a story. Layers of streets telling stories of individuals whose unfolding lives gives expression to soul in a variety of ways, of which are often unexpected and entirely unpredictable.

At which point the story really becomes all about the relationships between the artist, their subject and the viewer. I am inspired by the idea that the work of an artist is very much a reflection of the self; one's own journey in confronting the reality of their subjects and the interpretation of that confrontation. Art is simply the medium of that communication, a safe place for us to engage and connect.

DTS: Cape Town's Backyard was exhibited in 2010 at Wiengart Gallery in Los Angeles, CA and again in 2011 at Studio 333 in Sausalito CA, as part of collective works by South African photographers Max Mogale and Moeketsi Moticoe. All three perspectives came together to represent 'Mzansi Citizens of Soul' and the launching of the SOULCITY  movement artist collective. Ever-growing: Join the movement.   www.soulcitymovement.org
