believe in yourself and so will the world.
creativity.
Often times, creativity is not something that needs to be taught, but unleashed. I say we believe in ourselves first and foremost because in doing so, one is allowing their creativity to roam free, unattested with a sense of leadership. The most well-known and appreciated artists of the past and present are not praised for their artwork per-se, but for their ability to be 100% true to their feelings and emotions and communicate that sentiment through their medium. Many were considered crazy before they were remembered as innovators, heroes and geniuses of their time, decades or even centuries down the line.
inspiration.
There has been talk in my mind of writing a blog for years. So much talk that I actually decided to write one a couple years ago in a word document that I entitled 'the blog' and never posted any of it. I decided that it would be better to just let my fingers dance without an audience and see what I came up with. Almost like taking pictures of yourself alone at home in front of the mirror to get to know your best angles so your camera ready when the time comes. I have never done that, but I know plenty of people who do. And let me tell you, they take kick ass photos.
Does this mean that my blog is going to be kick ass, well, who knows. But the point is not to necessarily look good, its about feeling like you look good. Getting comfortable with your own face so that when you see it in someone else's viewfinder, your not surprised or worse discouraged and you know you put your best foot forward. One's best foot is always prepared.
Today I realized one of my greatest gifts to the world thus far is my ability to inspire and be inspired. Inspiration is one of the most beautiful aspects of life. effecting someone or something positively, just by doing you. When people follow their heart, they are usually both inspired by someone or something and are simultaneously taking a journey that will inevitably inspire others. I can guarantee that whatever inspired them was a product of the heart. The beauty of this realization is that we all have a heart. It is something that exists in us and is unique to every individual. We are inspired by different things and to do different things.
I am a dreamer. I manifest my own path by leading with my heart and creating with my mind. I am inspired the majority of the day, everyday. How might this be. At a certain stage in my education, both in school and in the streets, I became in touch with a general sense of what I am passionate about. Things that made me happy, things I could do alone, things that made me excited about life and most importantly things that made me very aware of what I did not know and left me excited to want to learn more. Music, Poetry, Writing, Social Justice, Deep Thinking, Photography, People, Stories, Food, Spirituality; to name a few. All things that made sense to me, mostly due in part to the ways in which they were imparted on me. I can throw out all of these general topics, but what is lacking in this explanation is the channels by which they came to me. The people that dropped the knowledge, the mediums through which I was confronted with various forms of information and sound bites.
If your feeling lifeless, uninspired or bored, I am suggesting that you look to your heart for answers. Wake it up, shake it if you have to, perhaps throw on some Fela Kuti or whatever rhythms make you sensitive. When you get that tingle, then your heart has risen. Walk through the world, let it guide you to your next movement. Together, you will find inspiration, and when you do; act with an open mind and never stop listening the beat of your own internal drum.
